  • C = concentration (mg/L)
  • 8.34 = conversion factor

🧪 Step 2: Plug in WAS Flow and Concentration

Let’s say on my shift I have:

  • WAS flow = 0.05 MGD
  • WAS concentration = 8,000 mg/L

Now I calculate:

  • Pounds wasted per day =
    0.05 × 8000 × 8.34

= 3,336 lbs/day removed

The calculation alone doesn’t mean anything unless you compare it to:

  • Current MLSS
  • Desired MLSS
  • Sludge age (SRT)

If MLSS is climbing → I increase wasting
If MLSS is dropping → I decrease wasting
